Topic: Working on the track
The highway is our workplace for your safety! Safety is our top priority when working on the highway, both for our employees and for all road users.Initial situation
Work along and on the road is an essential contribution to road maintenance. Accidents involving road users occur time and again. Mostly due to carelessness, fatigue and inappropriate driving behavior. An average of 15 warning trailers are currently damaged every year (see image). Workers are often unprotected here and depend on the right interaction with the drivers.
Goal levels
Accidents are not entirely avoidable. As ASFINAG, we have set ourselves the goal of shifting disruptions away from the main carriageway during low-traffic periods through maintenance measures and, where possible, to protect our employees in the best possible way.
- Proactive and quality-assured construction site planning
- As few points of contact with moving traffic as possible
- Upgrading and expanding the training concept (increasing skills, taking an active role) to ensure a uniform and optimal process on the route
Expectations until 2030
We want to significantly reduce the number of danger spots for employees
and road users significantly.
The use of the latest technologies will make our
construction sites more visible to our customers.
This will also further reduce the number of accidents
construction site areas will continue to fall.
- Low-maintenance or maintenance-free roads
Integral bridges increase the lifecycle and extend maintenance intervals. This results in less traffic disruption for our customers. The use of saponified central reservations speeds up maintenance work and reduces the amount of work required. Wider emergency lanes allow operations to carry out maintenance work away from the carriageway. - Training courses
Intensive training in roadworks safety and behavior on freeways for site and operations managers - Exchange with other infrastructure operators
Topics are discussed and synergies sought not only with highway operators, but also with other infrastructure operators.
