The new Strategy
We have developed a systemic safety strategy for the decade up to 2030, with which we are turning Austria's freeways and expressways into a "safe system".We have also coordinated with our European partners from ASECAP (European Association of Toll Roads) and the World Road Association PIARC to jointly promote the most successful safety measures. Finally, we have structured our projects into eight topic areas that span all areas of our road safety work in an interdisciplinary manner, from infrastructure safety to awareness-raising.
Organization of our safety work until 2030
The core strategy of the road safety program includes clear and transparent targets for the reduction of accidents, serious injuries and fatalities as well as a number of other safety-related sub-targets that we want to achieve by 2030. All indicators are analyzed on an ongoing basis and presented once a year at an ASFINAG safety forum. Representatives from all ASFINAG departments discuss necessary adjustments to measures to achieve the targets, if necessary also involving experts from other organizations and institutions. Updated accident figures are made available on the Internet at least once a year.
From strategy to action program
The demands on the traffic system are constantly changing: traffic volumes are increasing, new mobile communication devices are constantly threatening to distract road users from their driving tasks and developments in driver assistance and automation are also providing new opportunities and challenges for road safety.
We are therefore dividing our plan to establish a "Safe System" by 2030 into several action programs lasting one to several years in order to meet the current challenges. These programs always include specific measures and projects, including responsibilities and available budgets as well as - where appropriate - specific additional targets and key figures.
